The Rivers State Government has dismissed reports claiming that Governor Siminalayi Fubara removed the official portrait of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu from Government House, describing the allegation as false and misleading.
In a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Communications, Honour Kuru Sirawoo, the government said the report was “misleading, irresponsible, and inflammatory,” and lacked any factual basis.
The claim, reportedly made by one Bestman Innocent Amadi of the Rivers State chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), alleged that the governor disrespected President Tinubu by removing his portrait, suggesting the action was driven by ingratitude.

Responding to the allegation, Sirawoo stated that the Rivers State Government has neither a policy nor any directive aimed at disrespecting the President or the Federal Government.
He stressed that Governor Fubara maintains a strong and cooperative relationship with President Tinubu and remains supportive of the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
According to the statement, the partnership between the state and federal authorities has continued to yield positive outcomes for Rivers State.
“The insinuation that the Governor acted out of disrespect is unsupported by verifiable facts and should be discountenanced,” Sirawoo said.
He also expressed concern that a group presented as a youth organization would circulate what he described as provocative claims capable of heightening political tension. Sirawoo warned that such rhetoric could threaten stability and undermine the need for calm and constructive engagement in the state.
The Rivers State Government urged the public to disregard the allegation and rely on credible sources for information on government activities.
