Babcock University has disowned a viral academic certificate bearing the classification “First Class Upper,” describing it as fake and warning that anyone involved in producing, circulating or using such documents risks legal consequences.
In a public notice released on its official X account, the Ogun-based institution said it uncovered forged certificates falsely linked to the university, including an alleged honorary certificate presented to social media personality Carter Efe.
The university stressed that it does not issue honorary certificates for undergraduate academic performance and recognises academic excellence only through official degree certificates and transcripts issued by the Office of the Registrar.
It also clarified that “First Class Upper” is not a recognised academic classification, stating that the correct designation is “First Class Honours.”
Babcock urged employers, government agencies, educational institutions and the public to disregard the forged documents and verify all academic credentials directly with its Registrar.
