Facing steep inflation and slumping subscriber numbers, DStv-owner, MultiChoice Nigeria, has made a dramatic move.
Its decoder now costs just ₦10,000 which is much less than the former price which was about ₦20,000.

But that discount hides another story. On 1 March 2025, the company raised subscription prices across its packages:
• Premium: previously ₦37,000 is now ₦44,500
• Compact Plus: from ₦25,000 to ₦30,000
• Compact: from ₦15,700 to ₦19,000
• Confam: up to ₦11,000
• Yanga: up to ₦6,000
• Padi: up to ₦4,400
The moves come amid Nigeria’s broader economic struggle (inflation being above 30 % and falling consumer spending) and as MultiChoice battles a decline in subscribers.
For viewers, the message is mixed. Yes, the initial cost of entry (decoder) is now lower, but the monthly subscription has never been steeper. The question is whether viewers will feel the value is there or not.
