Afrobeats star Davido has shared how a simple misunderstanding between him and Omah Lay unexpectedly led to their Grammy-nominated collaboration, With You.
According to Davido, Omah Lay once believed he disliked him, an assumption the younger singer later admitted publicly on social media.
The misunderstanding came to light after Davido played Omah Lay’s song during a livestream with American streamer Kai Cenat in Lagos.
Surprised by the public shoutout, Omah Lay tweeted that he had always thought Davido hated him.
Davido said he immediately reached out via direct message to ask why Omah Lay felt that way, despite them never having met.
The conversation opened the door for communication, leading to studio sessions where they recorded several songs together.
Omah Lay eventually chose With You for release.
The track appears on Davido’s fifth album, 5ive, and has earned a nomination for Best African Music Performance at the 2026 Grammy Awards, drawing praise from fans for its emotional depth and collaborative spirit.
