The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has formally announced the timetable for the 2027 general elections, setting key dates for presidential, governorship and legislative polls.
Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja on Friday, the Chairman of the Commission, Prof. Joash Amupitan, dismissed earlier reports claiming that the electoral body had already released the election schedule prior to the official announcement.
Amupitan clarified that the timetable unveiled by the Commission complies fully with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution and the Electoral Act, 2022, as amended.

According to him, the presidential election is scheduled to take place on February 20, 2027.
He added that elections into governorship positions, the Senate and other elective offices will be conducted on March 6, 2027.
The INEC chairman assured stakeholders that the Commission remains committed to conducting transparent, credible and constitutionally compliant elections across the country.
