Suspected Boko Haram terrorists have released 416 women and children abducted from Ngoshe community in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State, bringing relief to families after months of uncertainty.
The President of the Borno South Youth Alliance, Samaila Kaigama, confirmed the development on Sunday, stating that the captives regained their freedom on June 6.
Kaigama said the alliance played a key role in facilitating discussions that led to the release, expressing gratitude that persistent efforts and engagements had produced positive results.
He noted that the group had previously acted as an intermediary between the abductors and affected families following reports that the victims were displayed by the insurgents in April.
While celebrating the development, Kaigama urged the Federal Government, Borno State Government and relevant local authorities to ensure thorough screening and support for the released captives.
Efforts to obtain official confirmation from the state Commissioner for Information and Internal Security were unsuccessful as calls to him went unanswered at the time of filing the report.
