Fresh uncertainty has emerged over the political future of Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, following a closed-door meeting with former presidential candidate, Peter Obi on Thursday.
Obi, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and former Labour Party presidential candidate, arrived in Bauchi amid growing speculation over Mohammed’s anticipated defection from the Peoples Democratic Party.
The meeting, held at the Presidential Lounge of the Government House, was conducted behind closed doors, with its agenda not immediately disclosed as of press time. Both leaders were, however, expected to brief journalists after the talks.
Mohammed’s political direction has been the subject of intense scrutiny since March 31, when he publicly stated that his preferred destination was the African Democratic Congress.
He made the disclosure while hosting a delegation of the party led by former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, at the Government House in Bauchi.
However, the governor’s next move became less predictable days later after he received the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Nentawe Yilwatda, alongside Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, in a separate meeting—fueling speculation over a possible shift in alignment.
Despite the uncertainty, Mohammed continues to serve as Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, making his eventual decision one of the most closely watched political developments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
