World heavyweight boxing star Anthony Joshua was involved in a fatal road accident on Monday morning along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway in Makun, Ogun State, leaving two passengers dead.
The crash occurred shortly after 11am when a Lexus SUV in Joshua’s convoy collided with a stationary truck near Danco Filling Station, close to the Sagamu Interchange.
Eyewitnesses said the vehicle lost control during an overtaking manoeuvre before ramming into the parked truck.
Joshua sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital alongside another survivor, while two occupants of the Lexus died instantly at the scene.
Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps arrived shortly after the incident and coordinated rescue efforts.
The Ogun State Police Command confirmed the accident, stating that the deceased had been deposited at a morgue in Sagamu, while investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash are ongoing.
The FRSC attributed the incident to excessive speed and wrongful overtaking.
