Actress and director Toyin Abraham has opened up about how publicly supporting President Bola Tinubu during the last election negatively impacted her career.
Speaking to actor Timini Egbuson on strategies to boost his movie’s box office, she advised, “The first advice I will give you in my entire life is, don’t put your mouth in politics.
Don’t tell them you’re supporting anybody… Be neutral.”Reflecting on her experience, Abraham admitted, It affected me oooo,” acknowledging the backlash she faced.
Her 2023 film Malaika suffered from alleged piracy on WhatsApp, and some netizens reportedly boycotted her movies due to her political endorsement.
She described the criticism as unfair, saying, “You all will tell the world why choosing my own candidate is a crime and yours is not.”
Toyin stressed that maintaining neutrality in public life could protect artists from similar professional setbacks.
