The Jigawa State Government has approved an increase in the monthly allowance paid to ward heads, also known as Maiunguwa, raising it from N3,000 to N10,000.

The decision was reached during the State Executive Council meeting held on Tuesday at the Government House in Dutse.

Briefing journalists after the meeting, the Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Dr. Nura Kazaure, said the increment reflects the administration’s recognition of the roles played by traditional leaders at the grassroots level.

“The increase in the monthly allowance of ward heads from the initial N3,000 to N10,000 highlights the humane gesture that characterises the empathy and sympathy of His Excellency Mallam Umar A. Namadi, FCA-led administration,” Kazaure said.

He described the ward heads as “traditional institution foot soldiers” who provide leadership within communities and assist in implementing government policies.

According to the commissioner, the council acknowledged the importance of the traditional leaders in local administration and considered the allowance review necessary in view of current economic conditions and their responsibilities.

“The all-inclusive approach ensures that no one is left behind on the journey towards greater Jigawa,” he added.

At the same meeting, the council also approved the transmission of a bill to the Jigawa State House of Assembly for the establishment of the Jigawa State University of Medical and Allied Health Sciences.

“The Council has approved the transmission of a bill for a law to establish Jigawa State University of Medical and Allied Health Sciences to the Jigawa State House of Assembly,” Kazaure said.

He further disclosed that the government had approved the appointment of the institution’s pioneer principal officers.

According to him, Prof. Mahmud Sani will serve as Vice-Chancellor, Muhammad Jahun as Registrar, Dr. Muhammadu Yusuf as Librarian, while Sani Sulaiman was appointed Bursar.

“This appointment is with immediate effect and is for a period of five years,” he said.
The council also approved the composition of a central planning committee for the 2026 Jigawa State Investment Summit.

Kazaure said the committee would be chaired by the Deputy Governor, Aminu Usman, with Dr. Muhammad Sagagi serving as Vice Chairman, while the Director-General of InvestJigawa will act as Secretary.
