The father of the major suspect apprehended over the murder of a mother, and her six children in Kano State has called on authorities to ensure his son is punished without delay.

Malam Auwal, whose son Umar Auwal is currently in police custody, urged security agencies and the justice system to act decisively, insisting that the suspect deserves the maximum penalty for the horrific crime.

Umar is accused of murdering his aunt, Fatima Abubakar, and her six children in the Dorayi Chiranchi area of Kano metropolis on Saturday.

The victims have been identified as Maimuna (17), Aisha (16), Bashir (13), Abubakar (10), Faruk (7) and Abdussalam (one-and-a-half years old).

Police authorities confirmed that the suspect has confessed to the killings. Investigators also revealed that Umar admitted involvement in an earlier attack in Tudun Yola, where two housewives were murdered and their home set ablaze.

Reacting to the tragedy, Malam Auwal expressed deep anger and shame over his son’s actions.

Speaking in an interview with Freedom Radio, he distanced himself completely from the suspect and called for his immediate execution.

Describing Umar as a danger to society, the grieving father said he should not be allowed to live.

“What he committed against my younger sister and her six children, my wife’s younger sister and her co-wife is condemnable. I distance myself from him,” Auwal said.

He further alleged that his son had previously committed another brutal crime within the family.

“I don’t even want them to waste time on prosecution. Umar and his likes are supposed to be eliminated. They are not supposed to be remanded and fed with taxpayers’ money,” he added.

According to him, Umar had killed his younger sister some years ago and plucked out her eyes, an allegation that has shocked many residents.

Despite the pain of the loss, Malam Auwal commended the police for their prompt handling of the case, stating that he had already “sacrificed” his son.

He also declared that neither he nor his wife, who is Umar’s mother, would attend any court proceedings related to the trial.

The brutal murders of Fatima Abubakar, 35, and her children have sparked widespread outrage in Kano and beyond. The family was reportedly attacked in their home at Dorayi Gidan Kwari by assailants allegedly led by Umar, in an incident that has left the community in mourning.
