Five Nigerian soldiers lost their lives after a suicide bombing targeted a military checkpoint in Pulka, a town close to Gwoza in Borno State.

The attack occurred on Sunday morning, according to multiple security sources familiar with the situation.

Information gathered indicates that the attacker gained access to the area during the night and avoided detection until troops arrived for duty at dawn.

The suspect is believed to have concealed himself near the checkpoint before moving towards the soldiers and triggering an explosive device strapped to his body.

The blast killed the attacker and five soldiers on the spot.

The bomber was reportedly traced to the Mandara Hills, a mountainous region along Nigeria’s border with Cameroon that has previously served as a transit route for insurgent elements.

The Nigerian Army has not released an official statement on the incident.

The attack underscores persistent security risks in parts of Borno State despite ongoing counter-insurgency operations.
