PDP crisis deepens as 3,000 delegates face conflicting court orders over Ibadan convention

The crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party intensified on Sunday as two opposing blocs continued to defend conflicting legal positions over the status of the party’s planned national convention in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Although the Damagum-led National Working Committee insists the 15–16 November convention will proceed, loyalists of Senator Samuel Anyanwu and Nyesom Wike maintain that the event cannot legally hold.

They argue that the convention is null because INEC was not formally notified within the mandatory 21-day window.

Party officials aligned with Damagum, however, insist that the most recent ruling, an ex parte order issued by Justice Ladiran Akintola of the Oyo State High Court, gives the green light for the process to continue.

They claim over 3,000 delegates, including super delegates and elected delegates, have been mobilised.

The disagreement followed earlier suspensions and counter-suspensions between the NWC and the Anyanwu camp. Both sides are accusing the other of illegality and insubordination.

Meanwhile, a senior PDP official said a series of meetings this week will determine the final position of the party before Wednesday.

Supporters of Wike also accused Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, of worsening the crisis allegedly due to his 2027 political ambition.

The Damagum camp denies this and insists there is no legitimate faction recognised by party law.
