Vice President Kashim Shettima has revealed that some individuals from Borno State once accused him of using traditional attire gifted to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the 2023 campaign to “charm” the president and cause his death.
Speaking at the public presentation of former Head of State General Yakubu Gowon’s autobiography in Abuja, Shettima said the allegation was made just months after Tinubu assumed office, when a delegation reportedly warned the president to stop wearing the clothes.
He said Tinubu dismissed the claim outright and even wore the outfit for a full week to prove the accusation false.
Shettima described the incident as an example of growing suspicion in Nigerian politics, contrasting it with past eras of trust, such as Gowon’s leadership period.
He also linked the story to broader concerns about unity, urging Nigerians to reject divisive narratives and embrace mutual trust for national stability and cohesion ahead of future elections.
