Former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode has been reassigned as Nigeria’s ambassador-designate to South Africa after an earlier posting to Germany.
The former minister announced the development on Thursday, revealing that President Bola Tinubu approved the diplomatic reshuffle.
Fani-Kayode was initially listed among ambassadorial nominees assigned to different countries but confirmed he would now represent Nigeria in South Africa instead of Germany.
The decision has stirred political discussions due to his outspoken role in national politics and his strong support for the ruling All Progressives Congress.
Although the presidency has yet to officially explain the sudden change, political observers believe the reassignment may be linked to Nigeria’s diplomatic and economic interests in South Africa. No official statement had been issued by the presidency as of press time.
