The Nigeria Police Force has reacted following claims by social media influencer Papaya Ex that she was assaulted by a police officer in Lagos.
Papaya Ex had shared a photo of a bruise on her face, alleging police misconduct.
n a statement, Police Public Relations Officer Benjamin Hundeyin provided the police account.
He said that around 2 a.m., officers on night patrol stopped a car carrying three men and two women for a routine check.
According to Hundeyin, Papaya Ex initially refused the search, citing her status, and later instructed her driver to speed off when officers attempted to follow, prompting another unit to intercept the vehicle.
Hundeyin added that the Lagos State Police Command is handling the matter and urged the public to allow due process.
The incident has reignited debates on police conduct, celebrity encounters with law enforcement, and public accountability.
