The Nigeria Police Force has officially confirmed that more than 100 Christian worshippers were abducted in Kurmin Wali, a hard-to-reach settlement in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, clarifying and correcting earlier public confusion surrounding the incident.
In a statement released on Tuesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Police said it was responding to the “deep concern generated by reports of an abduction incident at Kurmin Wali,” noting that the situation had triggered fear among residents and members of the public.
The Force explained that conflicting narratives emerged after a meeting of the Kaduna State Security Council convened by Governor Uba Sani.
At that meeting, it said, “some individuals from the affected local government area disputed the report, which had earlier been confirmed by the Police, and described it as false.”
According to the statement, remarks previously attributed to the Commissioner of Police in Kaduna State were misinterpreted.

The Police stressed that those comments “were not a denial of the incident but a measured response pending confirmation of details from the field, including the identities and number of those affected.”
The statement disclosed that further verification by operational units and intelligence networks has since established that the abduction did take place.
In response, the Police said joint security efforts have been launched with sister agencies to secure the release of the victims and stabilize the affected communities.
Acting on the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, the Force has deployed “critical operational and intelligence assets to Kajuru and surrounding communities,” including tactical teams, enhanced patrols and focused search-and-rescue missions.
The Police also called on the media and the public to avoid unverified reports and speculation, warning that misinformation could hinder rescue efforts.
Emphasising its commitment, the statement concluded: “The Force remains fully committed to the safety of all citizens and will continue to provide updates as developments unfold,” the statement said.
