Operatives of the Plateau State Police Command have arrested a man allegedly impersonating a soldier in Angwan Rukuba, an area within Jos North Local Government Area.
The suspect was taken into custody and moved to the state police headquarters in Jos, where he is to be paraded by the Commissioner of Police, Bassey Ewah.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Alfred Alabo, issued a statement on Wednesday inviting journalists to witness the parade.
“This is to inform you that the Plateau State Police Command has arrested a fake soldier in Angwan Rukuba.
“Therefore, the Commissioner of Police will be parading the suspect on Wednesday evening…”
The arrest comes as security agencies intensify operations to restore calm in Jos following a recent attack in Angwan Rukuba that left 28 people dead.
It also follows the easing of a 48-hour curfew earlier imposed by the Plateau State Government in response to escalating insecurity in the state capital.
Meanwhile, the University of Jos has directed students to vacate hostels due to the deteriorating security situation.
Authorities had earlier assured residents that joint security forces were working round the clock to maintain law and order across affected communities, while further details on the suspect’s activities are expected to be disclosed during the police parade.
