The Ondo State Security Network Agency (Amotekun) has apprehended 34 suspected criminals across the state’s 18 local government areas for offences including kidnapping, theft, burglary, and violations of the anti-grazing law.

16 of the suspects were paraded at the corps’ headquarters in Akure during the end-of-year surveillance exercise known as Operation Le Won Jade, aimed at flushing out criminals and enhancing public safety.

Chief Adetunji Adeleye, Ondo Amotekun commander, said, “These 16 suspects consist of 10 for general lawlessness, three for kidnapping, and three for anti-grazing offences. Our operation across all 18 local governments has significantly driven criminals away from our forests, and the exercise is ongoing.”

The operation also targeted individuals involved in vandalising government property and other nefarious activities. Some of the suspects were arrested in the act of kidnapping, while others were apprehended for stealing heavy equipment.

In response to recent school kidnappings, Amotekun has intensified patrols in boarding schools across the state, especially in border towns and outskirts. Enhanced surveillance aims to safeguard students, staff, and school property.

“Our 24-hour patrols and ember month operations have been intensified, and we are committed to ensuring the safety of lives and property in Ondo State,” Adeleye emphasised.

Earlier in November, the corps also arrested 16 illegal immigrants and 22 other individuals involved in criminal activities, demonstrating a proactive approach to security and community protection.

Residents have welcomed the initiative, acknowledging the importance of visible, community-focused security interventions during periods of increased vulnerability.

The ongoing Operation Le Won Jade and school patrols underscore Amotekun’s commitment to tackling crime and ensuring public safety across Ondo State.
