Nine residents abducted by armed bandits in Adanla community, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, remain in captivity despite the payment of a N40 million ransom raised by the community.
The victims were reportedly kidnapped on December 26, 2025, during an attack on the palace of the community’s monarch, Oba Olarinoye.
Sources said the assailants stormed the palace in search of the monarch and his queen, but both were away at the time. The monarch was said to have travelled to Igbaja for an event when the attackers struck.
Unable to find their intended targets, the bandits allegedly seized nine people from the palace and forced them into the bush.

A relative of some of the victims, who spoke in confidence, confirmed that the N40 million — contributed by community members and other well-meaning individuals — had been handed over to the kidnappers, yet the victims have not been released.
He said the community is now in dilemma as the fate of the victims.
According to the anonymous relation, “the bandits called to inform us that they heard the news report of the victims’ capture and are waiting for security agencies to come to their rescue.”
He blamed some informants in the community for helping the bandits and providing information to them.
He, however, appealed to the state government and security agencies to come to the rescue of the victims and secure their release.
