Veteran Nigerian entertainer, Charly Boy, has stirred controversy after criticising human rights activists Omoyele Sowore and Deji Adeyanju, describing them as “beneath his class” in a statement and video shared on May 5, 2026.

He said he no longer sees himself as equal to the duo, insisting that his age, legacy and family background place him above many public figures in the activism space.

Charly Boy also referenced his first son, who he said is a 53-year-old associate professor, using it to highlight his experience and seniority. He further described Sowore and Adeyanju as “fake activists,” adding that he has witnessed people with good intentions turn insincere over time.

The comments have sparked mixed reactions online, with supporters defending Charly Boy’s experience while critics accuse him of being disrespectful.

The remarks surfaced on May 5, 2026, amid ongoing debates about activism, credibility, and generational leadership in Nigeria’s civic space.

Neither Sowore nor Adeyanju had issued a response at the time of filing this report. Reactions continue to trail comments online
