Afrobeats star Tiwa Savage has said African music is not in decline but undergoing a necessary correction phase aimed at strengthening the industry’s long-term foundation.
Speaking as a keynote speaker at the Oxford Africa Conference, she explained that the recent slowdown in rapid global expansion should not be mistaken for a setback.
Savage noted that every major music genre, including hip-hop, R&B, and pop, has experienced similar periods of adjustment where growth stabilises to allow structural development.
According to her, African music is currently at a stage where attention must shift from hype-driven expansion to building sustainable infrastructure.
She stressed that while there are challenges to address, they should be seen as part of a healthy evolution rather than collapse.
Savage urged industry stakeholders to focus on correcting gaps in systems, investment, and structure to secure the future of African music globally.
