A viral video has reignited debate on marriage and gender roles after a Nigerian woman declared that single women “are not missing anything in marriage.”
In the clip, the woman described marriage as “a life of service and subservience,” warning that many women enter unions without fully understanding the emotional and domestic demands involved.
She advised young women to prioritise financial independence before considering marriage, arguing that rushing into it could lead to unnecessary stress.“
If you’re a single woman, you’re coming to work and baby another adult. You are coming to stress. Don’t rush into marriage. Every woman knows this. That’s why we tell women to get their money first,” she stated.
Her remarks have divided social media users, with some agreeing that financial autonomy strengthens women’s choices, while others labelled the view as a sweeping generalisation.
The video continues to spark discussion on modern relationships, independence, and societal expectations in Nigeria.
