Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, appeared in court in Kaduna on Monday for a high-profile arraignment, facing multiple charges brought by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and the Federal Government.

El-Rufai, who was escorted under tight security by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), arrived at the Federal High Court, Kaduna North Local Government Area, in a white van around 9:31 a.m., accompanied by suspected co-defendants. Security around the court was significantly tightened, with the DSS restricting movement and partially shutting down the dual carriageway, leaving only one lane accessible.

The ICPC is prosecuting El-Rufai on charges that include alleged conversion and possession of public property, money laundering, abuse of office, fraud, and conferring undue advantage.

A separate case has also been filed against him and another defendant before the Kaduna State High Court, as part of the Commission’s ongoing anti-corruption campaign. Both cases were filed on March 18, 2026.

In addition, El-Rufai faces charges related to cybercrime and threats to national security, further heightening the profile of the proceedings.

This marks El-Rufai’s first public appearance since his arrest in February, following investigations by both the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the ICPC.

The ICPC, through its spokesperson John Okor Odey, stated that legal proceedings are ongoing and the cases will continue to unfold in court.
