A viral video has ignited fierce debate after a Nigerian woman controversially described marriage as a form of “sex work” for women.
In the clip shared widely on X, she argued that many women enter marriages expecting financial support and domestic stability, taking on roles such as homemaking and parenting in exchange for love, validation, and upkeep.
“And this going to be very controversial to say marriage also is a sex work because a lot of women… he’s going to take care of you financially and there’s a home for you both to live in,” she said, explaining that the arrangement functions as long as both partners fulfil their roles.
Her remarks provoked mixed reactions online, with some condemning the statement as offensive and others debating the transactional dynamics within marriage.
Critics slammed the analogy, while some argued it highlighted gender expectations in traditional unions.
