Nigerian comedian and actor Chibunna Stanley, popularly known as Funnybone, has urged churches to place greater emphasis on mental health, stating that being born again does not automatically heal childhood trauma or behavioural dysfunction.
In an Instagram post, the entertainer argued that some personality traits are rooted in unresolved emotional wounds rather than spirituality, stressing that therapy should complement faith rather than compete with it.
According to him, many young Christians mistakenly believe that spiritual rebirth alone is enough to overcome deep-seated trauma, even though painful experiences can continue to shape behaviour, emotions and relationships.
Funnybone noted that a person can be both genuinely born again and still struggle with unresolved trauma, adding that some of the harshest personalities he has encountered identify as Christians because trauma often operates subconsciously.
He concluded by encouraging believers to embrace therapy alongside religion and spirituality, insisting that emotional healing and faith can successfully coexist.
