Former Bauchi State Governor, Mohammed Abubakar, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 election after defeating six other aspirants, including former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar.

The outcome of the party’s primary election was announced on Saturday by John Abang, chairman of the APC governorship and House of Assembly primary election committee in the state.

According to the results declared by the committee, Abubakar polled 57,517 votes to clinch the party’s ticket and emerge as the APC flagbearer for the 2027 governorship race in Bauchi State.

Tuggar came second with 26,001 votes, while Bala Wunti secured 13,648 votes. Nura Manu Soro recorded 13,638 votes, and Kabir Ma’aji scored 8,157 votes.

Abang said the figures were collated from the various voting centres across the state before the final declaration of the winner.

Tuggar had earlier resigned from his position as Minister of Foreign Affairs on March 30, following a directive by President Bola Tinubu requiring political appointees interested in contesting elective offices in 2027 to step down from their appointments.
