Former Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, on Tuesday publicly acknowledged Muhammad Sanusi II as the Emir of Kano, marking a notable shift in his stance years after removing him from the throne.

Ganduje made the remark during the swearing-in ceremony of the new Deputy Governor, Murtala Sule Garo, held at the Government House in Kano.

While addressing attendees, the former governor greeted Sanusi and also recognised him as the Chairman of the Kano State Council of Emirs.

The development is seen as significant, being the first time Ganduje has openly referred to Sanusi in that capacity since 2020, when he deposed the traditional ruler during his tenure as governor.

Sanusi was subsequently reinstated as Emir following the election of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
