The immediate past Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has dismissed claims that he stepped down from office without consulting President Bola Tinubu, insisting his decision had the president’s full backing.
Adelabu, who recently resigned to pursue the Oyo State governorship under the All Progressives Congress (APC), clarified his position in a statement issued on Saturday through his media aide, Femi Awogboro.
His reaction follows reports suggesting he failed to carry out the necessary consultations before leaving the Federal Executive Council.
Refuting the claims, Adelabu maintained that his resignation aligned with the president’s wishes. The statement said, “Adelabu actually obtained the full approval and blessing of President Tinubu before taking the decision to resign. Those spreading false speculations to desist, such claims are baseless.
“Critics have nothing tangible to hold against Adelabu and are only unsettled by the unprecedented crowd that welcomed him back to Ibadan last Thursday.”
Adelabu’s return to Ibadan drew significant public attention, coming shortly after he exited the cabinet to focus on his political ambition in Oyo State.
