Tension has emerged within the Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) following comments by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, over the party’s national leadership crisis.

Wike’s remarks, made during a national television interview on Monday night, raised concerns about Governor Ademola Adeleke’s chances of securing the party’s nomination for his 2026 re-election bid.

The minister was asked whether the PDP would field candidates in the 2026 governorship elections in Osun and Ekiti states.

He responded by describing the party as being in “danger” and warned Adeleke about potential risks.

He said: “Ask the governor of Osun, Adeleke, ask him. He came to see me and I told him, what are you doing? That you are in danger. I don’t like people who are not truthful… There is this spirit in governors that I can do it all, I can do magic.”

His comments have sparked speculation about the stability of PDP in Osun State.

Following Wike’s statements, party leaders in Osun reportedly became concerned over the implications for Adeleke’s nomination.

Adewale Adegbite, a PDP leader, said: “You can listen to the comment made by Wike. Are we not done for as a party for the 2026 governorship election? Our party is united and ready to face the election next year, but the latest development may affect our preparation.”

Another PDP leader, who requested anonymity, added that Governor Adeleke has been engaging with various factions within the party to secure proper nomination.

He noted that discussions with Wike and Governor Seyi Makinde were ongoing and expressed hope that the internal crisis would be resolved amicably.

However, the Osun PDP, through its Director of Media, Oladele Olabamji, downplayed fears within the party.

He assured that the party remained confident in Adeleke’s nomination process.

“We don’t foresee any danger. Governor Adeleke has begun his process of nomination, which will be completed without any issue, I can assure you,” Olabamji said.

The developments highlight ongoing internal party tensions as stakeholders prepare for the 2026 elections.

As the PDP in Osun navigates these dynamics, attention remains on how the national leadership crisis will impact local political alignments and Governor Adeleke’s campaign strategies for the upcoming elections.
