United States President Donald Trump has praised President Bola Tinubu’s handling of Nigeria’s anti-terrorism campaign, describing his leadership as decisive and pledging stronger security cooperation between both countries.
In a July 6 letter released by the Presidency, Trump commended Tinubu’s resolve to confront terrorism, particularly attacks on Christian communities, and reaffirmed America’s commitment to supporting Nigeria through the 2026 Defence Cooperation Roadmap.
He disclosed that U.S. Special Operations Forces had been deployed to train and equip Nigerian troops with advanced skills, intelligence and operational tools to strengthen counter-terrorism efforts.
The Presidency said both nations’ Joint Working Group had expanded intelligence sharing, military training and joint operations, contributing to major successes against terrorist groups.
Recent military operations reportedly neutralised hundreds of terrorists, secured the surrender of senior ISWAP commanders and rescued abducted civilians.
Government officials and security experts described Trump’s message as recognition of Nigeria’s renewed offensive against terrorism.
