TIMELINE: 10 things to know about new Police spokesman Anthony Placid

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has approved the appointment of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Anthony Placid as the new Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO) of the Nigeria Police Force.

The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja by the outgoing FPRO, Benjamin Hundeyin.

Here are 10 key facts about the new police spokesman:

  1. Appointment as Police Spokesman
Placid has been appointed the new Force Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Police Force, succeeding Hundeyin.
  2. Birth and Origin
He was born on December 2, 1970, in Uyo, Akwa Ibom, and hails from Mbiokporo Nsit in Nsit Ibom Local Government Area of the state.
  3. University Education
Placid holds a Bachelor’s degree in Geography and Regional Planning from the University of Uyo.
  4. Advanced Academic Qualifications
He also obtained a Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy from the University of Jos and a Bachelor of Law degree from the National Open University of Nigeria.
  5. Entry into the Police Force
Placid joined the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police at the Nigeria Police Academy in 1996 and was commissioned in August 1998.

  1. Extensive Professional Training
He has attended several professional and international courses, including the United Nations Peace Operations Specialised Training, earning certifications in police studies, military studies, gender awareness, international humanitarian law, human rights, and civilian protection.
  2. Experience in Public Relations
Before his new role, Placid served as Police Public Relations Officer in Adamawa State and at the Police Staff College in Jos.
  3. International Peacekeeping Roles
He previously served as Chief of Training with the African Union Mission in Sudan and as Head of Training and Development with the United Nations Mission in Darfur.
  4. Strategic Security and Police Assignments
Placid has held several operational and administrative positions, including Divisional Police Officer in Federal Housing Calabar, Bakassi, Uruan and Gembu; Officer-in-Charge of the Anti-Robbery Unit in Kaduna; and ACP Operations in Akwa Ibom and Kogi states.
  5. Strategic Leadership Credentials
He is a graduate of the Senior Executive Course (SEC 47) of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, and was inducted as a Member of the National Institute (mni) on December 13, 2025.
    Placid is also a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police and a trainer on international humanitarian law with the International Committee of the Red Cross.

He is married with children and enjoys listening to music and playing football, basketball, table tennis and badminton.
