President Bola Tinubu has sanctioned the addition of 50,000 graduates to the 2026 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) mobilisation, aiming to reduce long queues and increase opportunities for Nigerian graduates.

The announcement was made by NYSC Director-General, Brig.-Gen. Olakunle Nafiu, during the unveiling of a renovated clinic at the NYSC headquarters in Abuja.Brig.-Gen.

Nafiu explained that the move responds to complaints from graduates facing extended waiting periods.

With this approval, the NYSC plans to mobilise 418,000 graduates next year, up from previous years.

He highlighted that while over 400 institutions now produce roughly 600,000 graduates annually, some professionals like doctors and lawyers undergo additional training before qualifying for service.

Safety and welfare remain priorities, with postings avoiding high-risk or sensitive areas.

The newly remodelled clinic underscores the agency’s commitment to participant welfare.

Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, commended Nafiu’s leadership and urged graduates to observe safety precautions, particularly avoiding night travel.
