Nigerian rapper YCee has clarified his remarks on the “Olodo Uprising” controversy, saying he was misunderstood and stressing that he does not hold a university degree.
Speaking in a recent interview, the rapper dismissed claims that his comments were classist or elitist, explaining that he did not coin the “Olodo Uprising” phrase and that many people misinterpreted his message.
YCee also expressed concern over what he described as society’s growing obsession with wealth, arguing that the pursuit of money has weakened values.
According to him, even countries facing war and greater hardship do not display the same level of questionable behaviour, adding that “so long as you make money” has become a common excuse for wrongdoing.
Reflecting on his education, YCee revealed he only has a secondary school certificate after failing to meet the admission cut-off mark to study Computer Science at the University of Lagos despite his earlier ambition.
