The Federal Government has released N3.9 billion in outstanding pension arrears to 91,146 retirees under the Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS), offering long-awaited relief to pensioners across the country.

The disbursement, carried out by the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD), forms part of the N32,000 pension increase approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for retired workers nationwide.

According to PTAD, the funds were distributed across all major pension departments: Parastatals, Civil Service, Police, and Customs, Immigration and Prisons.

  • N1.9 billion paid to 59,865 pensioners in the Parastatals Pension Department
  • N830 million to 12,976 retired civil servants
  • N620 million to 9,689 police pensioners
  • N551 million to 8,616 retirees from Customs, Immigration and Prisons

  • PTAD’s Head of Corporate Communications, Olugbenga Ajayi, quoted the agency’s Executive Secretary, Tolulope Odunaiya, as reaffirming the government’s resolve to offset inherited obligations and strengthen support for senior citizens.
Odunaiya said the payout reflects President Tinubu’s commitment to pension welfare under the Renewed Hope Agenda, adding that PTAD is focused on ensuring regular, transparent, and timely payments.
She noted that the latest arrears settlement is aimed at restoring dignity to retirees who have waited years for their entitlements.
“Our pensioners deserve timely payment, and we are ensuring that no eligible beneficiary is overlooked,” she said. “Clearing arrears and enhancing transparency remain central to our work.”
Odunaiya assured that PTAD will continue to track disbursements and maintain a system that guarantees consistent support for retirees nationwide.
