A Nigerian POS operator has shared a dramatic story of how he partially recovered money stolen by a customer who scammed his salesgirl out of ₦100,000.
The incident occurred when a man attempted to withdraw ₦100,000, claiming he had transferred the money, but the account details he provided were incomplete.
The salesgirl, earning just ₦15,000 monthly, handed over the cash, only to realise later that the transaction never went through.
About a year later, fate brought the same man back to the shop. When a woman attempted to deposit ₦80,000 into the scammer’s account, the operator instructed the salesgirl to delay the transaction.
He then called the account owner, saying, “This is the POS shop you stole ₦100,000 from.”
Shocked, the man went silent. The operator recovered ₦80,000, calling the moment “sweet revenge” and highlighting the risks POS operators face daily.
