Popular social media personality Peller has faced widespread criticism following remarks about Yoruba people during a recent live broadcast.
During the session, Peller, who identified himself as Yoruba, described his ethnic group’s style of asking for money as “premium and threatening,” claiming they sometimes demand large sums without hesitation.
“I’m a Yoruba boy but Yoruba people beg a lot. Their begging is premium and threatening; telling you to give them 1 million naira or above,” he stated. The clip quickly went viral on social media, generating mixed reactions.
While some argued Peller was joking and reflecting personal experiences, many accused him of stereotyping and disrespecting his own community.
The incident highlights ongoing sensitivity around tribal remarks in Nigeria, especially from influencers with large audiences.
As of this report, Peller had not issued a formal clarification or apology for the statement.
