Afrobeats star Davido, born David Adeleke, has revealed plans to repurchase his music masters from Sony Music before retiring from active music.
The singer disclosed this during an appearance on The Long Form podcast, stressing that ownership remains the most critical part of any recording deal.
Although he described his current contract as favourable, Davido said full control of his catalogue is a long-term priority.
According to him, reclaiming his masters would allow him to pass on individual songs to his children after retirement, ensuring generational value from his work.
He explained that true success in music goes beyond fame and chart performance.
Davido also advised emerging artists to pay close attention to the business side of the industry, noting that ownership determines creative freedom, financial stability and legacy.
His comments add to ongoing conversations around artists’ rights and long-term wealth in the global music business.
