“What’s an Achievement Without a Man?” — Woman Recalls Painful Childhood Experience Over Marriage Pressure

A Nigerian woman has sparked discussions online after sharing her strained relationship with her father over marriage expectations.

In a viral video, she recounted how, while in her 300 level at university, her father physically assaulted her after discovering she had a boyfriend.

“The beating was so intense that I cried from morning until the next day,” she said.

Years later, as she prepared to study abroad in Canada, her father questioned her relationship status, asking if she had a man and whether she planned to conduct her wedding over Zoom.

In 2025, she told her father she had paid her first-year tuition abroad by herself, expecting praise.

Instead, he reportedly said, “All these achievements you are acquiring without a man, it’s nothing.”

Shocked, she replied, “Without which man? Please don’t say it to my ear again.”

Her story has ignited debate on parental pressure, abuse, and expectations regarding marriage versus personal achievements.
