“What can ₦10k buy?” — Pastor faults ‘poverty tests’ in relationships

A Nigerian pastor has ignited debate online after criticising men who attempt to test women’s loyalty through financial hardship.

In a viral message circulating on X, the clergyman condemned the practice of deliberately giving women little or nothing as a measure of love and commitment.

He questioned the logic behind such actions, arguing that they reflect irresponsibility rather than sincerity.

“You say you want a woman to love you for who you are, yet you test her with three cups of rice. Are we travelling back to yesterday?” he said.

The pastor added that expecting a woman to survive on ₦10,000 for weeks is unrealistic, stressing that financial stability plays a vital role in building a healthy relationship.

His remarks have drawn mixed reactions, with some supporting his stance, while others insist that genuine love should not be defined by money alone.
