Minister of Federal capital Territory, FCT Barrister Nyesom Wike had confessed that anarchy would have been created in Rivers state if he was interested in extending state of emergency in the state.
Wike made this known during a programme on Channels TV, Politics Today.
Wike narrated how President Tinubu intervened in the Rivers crisis and why he opted to declare state of emergency in Rivers to forestall break down of law and order.
“I will want to thank president Tinubu for taking that bold and decisive step… recall I was there even the governor (Fubara) came out to say if not for the president something else would have happened”.
As a politician .. yes but for the interest of the state… the President is my boss but know forget about I am working for the president but the interest of the state, how peace can work and that led to the peace meeting with all stakeholders and now there is peace. Even as of yesterday we spoke. We are prepared for peace for the interest of the state. I can assure but what I can’t assure of is that some people are trouble makers and I was watching it on TV yesterday… see if we don’t want to lift the emergency rule we would have done one or two things to extend it,” Wike said.
Recall President Tinubu announced the lifting of State of Emergency in Rivers on the 17th of September, 2025 amid wild jubilation and criticisms among people loyal to Governor Fubara and the opposition in the country.
