South African Grammy-winning singer Tyla has removed Lagos from the itinerary of her upcoming APOP World Tour, days after the Nigerian concert sparked mixed reactions and boycott calls on social media.
A check of the singer’s official tour schedule on Friday showed that the Lagos performance, previously slated for December 22, was no longer listed, while all other announced dates across Europe, North America and South Africa remained unchanged.
Earlier this week, Lagos had been announced as the only Nigerian stop before the tour’s final shows in Cape Town and Johannesburg.
The development followed calls by some Nigerians, including media personality Do2dtun and social commentator VeryDarkMan, urging a boycott of the concert over renewed xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in South Africa.
Others, however, argued that entertainers should not be blamed for political tensions.
As of the time of reporting, neither Tyla nor her management had explained the removal, while concert promoters had not announced a cancellation or postponement.
