President Bola Tinubu has approved the expansion of the Nigerian Army from eight to 12 divisions alongside the recruitment of 28,000 additional personnel as part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture.
The Presidency said the decision is aimed at improving the Army’s operational effectiveness and enhancing its ability to respond to the country’s evolving security challenges.
Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed the approval in a statement, describing it as a demonstration of the administration’s commitment to equipping the Armed Forces and boosting national defence capabilities.
According to the statement, the expansion builds on ongoing investments in military modernisation, including the acquisition of critical platforms and equipment, improved troop welfare and enhanced operational readiness.
Under the new arrangement, the Nigerian Army will operate 12 strategically positioned divisions across the country to strengthen national security and improve military response capabilities.
