Award-winning comedy film The Fisherman has officially premiered in cinemas across Nigeria following a successful run at major international film festivals.
Distributed by FilmOne Entertainment, the movie began its nationwide theatrical release on May 15, 2026, shortly after a private premiere held at Landmark, Lagos.
Directed by Zoey Martinson and executive produced by Yvonne Orji, the fantasy comedy gained global recognition after winning the UNESCO Fellini Medal at the Venice International Film Festival. The production also secured the Best Narrative Feature award at the American Black Film Festival.
The story follows Atta Oko, a retired fisherman whose life changes after meeting a sarcastic talking fish during an unexpected adventure.
The film combines comedy, fantasy and magical realism while showcasing African storytelling to audiences around the world.
