Two days after the violent abduction of a bride and wedding attendees in Chacho village, Wurno Local Government Area of Sokoto State, the suspected terrorists responsible for the attack have reached out to the family, but surprisingly made no ransom demand.

The bride’s father, Malam Umaru Chacho, told journalists in the village that the kidnappers contacted the family with an unusual request, they wanted direct access to the community’s traditional ruler.

According to him, “when they called they said we should connect them with the traditional ruler of the town. We refused and asked them to speak to us instead, but they declined, insisting that they wanted to speak with our traditional ruler.”

Chacho explained that 13 people were taken during the attack, including 11 women and two men, while several others were injured as they fled or attempted to resist.

He recounted that “A relative of the bride who resisted the terrorists was shot and sustained a severe gunshot injury that almost took his life.”

The bride’s father also expressed deep concern over the deteriorating security situation in Chacho, noting that the community has suffered repeated assaults.

Over the last five years, he said, more than 30 residents have been killed in recurring bandit attacks.
