Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has stepped down as National Chairman of the African Action Congress ahead of his fresh bid for the presidency in 2027.
The party has since named Samuel Ajeigbe as its new National Chairman following Sowore’s exit from the position.
Sowore also formally announced his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election, saying his ambition is aimed at rebuilding Nigeria’s political and economic systems.
According to him, the country requires deep institutional reforms, improved accountability and governance structures capable of addressing longstanding national challenges.
The activist-politician argued that successive administrations had failed to confront the root causes of Nigeria’s problems, insisting that the current political structure continues to produce ineffective leadership.
He said his campaign would focus on transparency, justice and comprehensive reforms targeted at what he described as a “broken system.”
Sowore also stressed the importance of youth participation in governance, urging younger Nigerians to become more actively involved in shaping the country’s political future ahead of the next general election.
