Leaders of the Taminu Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Friday met with former President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja as political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections continue to gather momentum.
The meeting comes after the faction announced Jonathan in absentia as its presidential candidate for the 2027 election and formally ratified his nomination despite his absence from the event. Jonathan has not publicly declared his intention to contest the presidency.
On May 7, the former president said he would consult widely before making a decision on whether to run for office after a group of protesters visited his Abuja office urging him to declare his ambition.
He has also not addressed the media since making that statement. As of the time this report was filed, details of Friday’s meeting between Jonathan and the PDP faction leaders had not been made public, leaving the purpose and outcome of the engagement unclear.
