The Presidency has strongly criticised opposition leader Peter Obi after he called for President Bola Tinubu’s resignation, describing the remarks as “childish” and an unwarranted political distraction.
In a statement issued by presidential aide Bayo Onanuga, the Presidency rejected Obi’s comparison of Nigeria’s political system with that of the United Kingdom, insisting it was simplistic and misleading.
The statement said Nigeria operates a presidential system with fixed four-year terms, making Obi’s argument irrelevant.
It further cited recent election victories in Ekiti, Nasarawa, Enugu, Ondo, and Rivers as proof of public confidence in the administration.
The Presidency also defended its security and economic record, claiming improvements in terrorism control, revenue generation, oil production, foreign reserves, and infrastructure development. I
It accused Obi of misrepresenting national progress and said his remarks reflected a distorted view of Nigeria’s reality since 2023.
The statement concluded that Obi’s resignation call was “hollow” and a political grandstanding distraction from governance issues.
