Obi, Kwankwaso poised to exit ADC, align with NDC amid rising opposition tensions

Presidential hopefuls Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso are set to abandon the African Democratic Congress, signalling a major shift in opposition politics ahead of 2027.

Both leaders, alongside loyalists, are expected to unveil a new political platform, widely believed to be the Nigerian Democratic Congress, as early as Monday.

The move follows internal disputes and legal uncertainties within the ADC, which stakeholders say could jeopardise electoral participation.

Allies disclosed that the emerging alliance may present Obi as presidential candidate, with Kwankwaso as running mate.

Spokespersons confirmed consultations are ongoing, while urging supporters to remain calm amid speculation.

Meanwhile, the ADC insists it remains viable and will field candidates in the next general election.

The development highlights deepening fractures within opposition ranks as political actors intensify realignments to strengthen their chances against the ruling party.
