Actress Jaiye Kuti has expressed concern over what she described as the declining sense of unity in Nollywood, lamenting that colleagues failed to support her after some cinemas reportedly removed her film from their schedules.
Speaking on the Oyinmomo podcast, Kuti said many actors and filmmakers face similar professional setbacks but often choose to remain silent instead of standing together.
She argued that the lack of solidarity is weakening relationships across the industry and making collaboration more difficult.
The actress also highlighted the financial burden of producing and distributing films, noting that disruptions to cinema screenings can have serious consequences for filmmakers.
Kuti further said the glamorous lifestyles displayed by celebrities on social media often conceal the pressures they endure behind the scenes.
Disappointed by the response from colleagues, she revealed she no longer celebrates birthdays publicly because she does not want goodwill messages from people who fail to offer meaningful support.
